Primo Ramdisk Instructions - Create Virtual Disks
Primo Ramdisk provides a wizard to help you create a new virtual disk easily. Click on the icon button in the command toolbar to start the wizard, and then follow the instructions on the creation wizard.
Create a disk with new settings: You will need to specify all necessary disk settings in the next wizard pages.
Create a disk from a disk descriptor file: If you have a disk descriptor file, you can import the disk settings from this descriptor file. See Export/Import Disk Settings topic.
Create a disk from an image file: If you have an image file, you can import the disk settings from this image file.
Disk size: Specify the size of the virtual disk.
Disk type: See SCSI Disk and Direct-IO Disk topic.
One-time disk: If this checkbox is ticked, Primo Ramdisk will create a temporary virtual disk. This means that the disk only exists until computer shutdown or restart. At the next computer restart, this virtual disk will be removed from the system.
In this wizard page, you can specify the substances, Physical Memory, Physical Drive, or both, of the virtual disk. If Physical Drive takes 0 MB, this virtual disk will be a ram-disk. If Physical Memory takes 0 MB, this disk will be a file-disk. In other cases, this will be a hybrid-disk. By default, Primo Ramdisk will create a ram-disk. You can click the left scroll bar to adjust the ratio of Physical Memory to Physical Drive. See Ramdisk, Hybrid-disk and File-disk topic.
Use Invisible Memory: If this checkbox is ticked, Primo Ramdisk will first try to use Invisible Memory for the virtual disk, and then use system managed memory if the available Invisible Memory amount is not enough. See Invisible Memory Management Interface topic.
Quota: Limit the maximum amount of Invisible Memory for the virtual disk.
Dynamic memory management: See Dynamic Memory Management topic.
Physical Drive file path: Specify the file name including the full path. This file will work as the storage media for the hybrid-disk or the file-disk. The file can be non-exist. Primo Ramdisk will automatically create the file if it finds the file does not exist.
File System Settings
Image File Settings
If you want to associate an image file to the virtual disk, tick the checkbox Enable associated image file. And enter the image file name including the full path. The image file can be non-exist. Primo Ramdisk will automatically create the image file at the first time of saving if it finds the image file does not exist. See Image File Features topic.
1. Primo Ramdisk Standard Edition does not support the image file feature. You have to use the Professional/Ultimate/Server Edition.
2. Currently hybrid-disks do not support the image file feature. And file-disks do not need the image file. So the image file feature is only available to the ram-disks.
In this final page, you can review the settings. Click Finish to complete the wizard. Then Primo Ramdisk will start to create a new virtual disk to the system.
