This document provides instructions for installing, updating and upgrading Primo Ramdisk on a Windows operating system. Before starting, you should have downloaded the latest Primo Ramdisk installation executable from the Download page.
Double click on the Primo Ramdisk installation executable to start the installation wizard. A User Account Control window as below figure may appear to ask you to allow the program to run, click on the Yes button. Don't worry if you don't see this window.
The wizard displays the Primo Ramdisk end-user license agreement. Read through the agreement and click I accept the agreement to continue with the installation. Then click Next.
You will be asked to choose the Primo Ramdisk edition you would like to install, if you are not installing the Server edition. Choose an edition, and then click Next.
Select or specify the directory where you want to install Primo Ramdisk, and then click Next.
Select the location for the Primo Ramdisk shortcut in the Windows Start menu and then click Next.
Click Install to start the installation.
On Windows prior to Windows 10, you are likely asked to install the device software during the installation. Click Install, otherwise Primo Ramdisk will not work.
When the installation finishes, click Finish to exit the wizard.
If you have an earlier version of Primo Ramdisk already installed, don't uninstall it. The installation executable for the new version will update and overwrite your existing version, but will carry forward all your licenses and configurations. They will be removed if you do the uninstallation.
Double click on the Primo Ramdisk installation executable to start the update. The update process is essentially same as the installation process. Once the update is completed successfully, you are likely asked to restart the computer if you have virtual disks created by Primo Ramdisk. If so, restart your computer to apply the new version.
Since Primo Ramdisk version 6.0, Primo Ramdisk has merged Standard, Professional and Ultimate editions into one installation. So if you want to upgrade your Primo Ramdisk to an advanced edition, you may go to the Purchase page and upgrade your license to the edition you need, and then do the activation again on Primo Ramdisk by the upgraded license. Primo Ramdisk will automatically change itself to the edition matching the license after successful activaiton.
