This section provides
an introduction to VSuite
Ramdisk's graphical user interface. Complete details on each components
are provided in other sectons.

The VSuite Ramdisk
user interface has a task bar which consists of two task tabs: Ramdisk Tab and Options Tab.
Ramdisk
Tab
The Ramdisk tab lets
you see and control the specific ramdisk. It provides two operation
mode: Creation
Mode and Property
Mode. In the Creation Mode, you can
add or remove a ramdisk, while in the Property Mode you can check and
modify the ramdisk's properties.
Ramdisk
List
The Ramdisk List lists
all the created ramdisks.
Direct:
Y - this ramdisk is a Direct IO Ramdisk,
N - this ramdisk is a SCSI Ramdisk.
Image:
Y - this ramdisk enables image file,
N - this ramdisk doesn't use image file.
Status:
Active - this ramdisk is created successfully and
in working state,
Inactive - this ramdisk isn't created possibly because of
low RAM resource or invalid settings.
General
Properties
SCSI Disk:
The ramdisk is subject to
the SCSI specification and can be recognized by OS as a physical hard
disk.
Direct IO Disk:
The ramdisk has a faster access speed than SCSI Ramdisk, but is
recognized by OS as
a logical disk only.
Overlapped
IO Support: Allow to enable overlapped IO
support.
Dynamic RAM Allocation:
Allow to allocate RAM in steps of 32MB and only when needed instead of
allocating all RAM at the time of creation of the ramdisk.
Volatile:
If ticked, the ramdisk will not exist after system reboot.
File System
Properties
Disk Size:
Specify the
capacity of the ramdisk, at least 1MB.
Drive Letter:
Assign a
drive letter to the ramdisk. If "Auto Assign" is selected, the drive
letter will be automatically assigned by Operating System.
File System:
Specify the file system for the ramdisk. The requested file system will
be initialized automatically after the ramdisk is created. NTFS, FAT32
and FAT file systems are supported. RAW means no file system will be
initialized
automatically.
Cluster Size:
Specify the allocation unit size for the requested file system.
Volume Label:
Specify the name of a volume. At most 11
characters are allowed for FAT32/FAT and 32 characters for NTFS.
Enable
NTFS Compression: If ticked, NTFS Compression is enabled
on the volume that
use NTFS file system.
Create TEMP
Folder: If ticked, a folder named TEMP will be
automatically added on the ramdisk. It helps when
users want to assign the
windows TEMP environment variable to the ramdisk.
More button: trigger Advanced Settings
dialog box, such as custom folders, volume serial and NTFS permissons.
Image File
Properties
Enable
Image File: Allow to use image file. If
ticked, the ramdisk will load specified image file when the
ramdisk is created or system reboot. Input the full path name of the
image file (including image file name itself) in the edit box next to
this option. If the image file does not exist or match the ramdisk
size, the ramdisk will not load it.
Save
at Computer Shutdown: If ticked, the ramdisk will save
data to the specified image file when computer shuts down.
Timing Save:
Allow to save image file repeatedly after a given time
interval.
Real-Time Save:
Save data immediately to the image file whenever data is written to the
ramdisk.
Direct Mirror:
The image file is a full mirror of the ramdisk.
Smart Mirror:
The image file only stores the valid data of the ramdisk.
Compressed Mirror:
The image file is a compressed mirror of the ramdisk.
Quick Save Mode:
If ticked, only new data will be updated to the image file. It skips
unchanged data and reduces writing time of image
file.
Quick Load Mode:
If ticked, the ramdisk doesn't load the whole image file at system
startup. On the contrary, it loads necessary blocks of the image file
only when corresponding data is requested if these blocks
haven't been loaded yet. It minimises the
influence on the system startup process
especially when a huge image file is used.
For more details on
Image File Properties, see How
to Use Image File.
Invisible
Memory Properties
Use OS
Invisible Memory: Allow to use OS Invisible Memory (IM) to
create a ramdisk. If there's no enough IM, OS managed memory is used to
fill up the gap.

as well as to release
RAM if possible.
