PrimoCache (Beta) 0.9.8 and Windows XP.

Post by idefix44 »

OS: Windows XP SP3 fully updated.

PrimoCache 0.9.2 in use.
- Using "Mini PrimoCache For Volume By Initka" (PrimoPlugIn 0.9.1.exe) I kill the running cache.
- I format the Level-2 Cache Storage.
- I uninstall PrimoCache 0.9.2.
- I restart the PC.
- I install PrimoCache 0.9.8.

Impossible to restart normally the PC.

- Using safe mode I restart the PC.
- I uninstall PrimoCache 0.9.8.
- I restart the PC.
- I reinstall PrimoCache 0.9.2.
- Using "Mini PrimoCache For Volume By Initka" (PrimoPlugIn 0.9.1.exe) I recreate a running cache.

So, I've been unable to restart with PrimoCache 0.9.8 installed...

May I know the symptom of restart issue after you installed 0.9.8? Did Windows hang or bluescreen? Thanks.

No Blue screen.

1- Power-On Self Test (POST) is ok.
2- Black screen...
3- Goto 1.

The XP logo isn't displayed...

No problem to restart in safe mode, using F8 during the POST.

It seems to be a driver issue.
v0.9.2 works fine for me. With the "#001 After reboot, Level-2 storages cannot be recognized by PrimoCache in Windows XP" problem.

Is Windows XP installed on a partition formatted by FAT32 file system? Or on a dynamic/GPT partition? or dual-booted?

XP is installed on a NTFS partition.
I use a classic, basic installation: HD = 250 GB = 50 GB (System + Apps) + 200 GB (Datas).
No other OS installed on the PC.

Could you try the following step?
1. Delete the level-2 storage or format back to a normal volume.
2. Uninstall previous version of PrimoCache.
3. Restart the computer.
4. Install PrimoCache 0.9.8
5. Restart again

Will this boot up Windows?
Thank you!

Without stopping the 0.9.2 running cache before?

So, I've been unable to restart with PrimoCache 0.9.8 installed...
- I format the Level-2 Cache Storage. I format it back to a normal volume.
So I don't see anything new in your process...

Ok, here's what I tried a few minutes ago (PrimoCache 0.9.2 was running correctly):

01- Backup the system.
02- Install 0.9.8 over 0.9.2.
03- Hit yes when requested for restart now.
04- Restart using safe mode.
05- Uninstall 0.9.8.
06- Restart.
07- Format the Level-2 Cache Storage partition to a normal volume.
08- Install 0.9.8.
09- Hit yes when requested for restart now.
10- Restart using safe mode.
11- Uninstall 0.9.8.
12- Restart.
11- Install 0.9.2.
12- Restart.
13- Create my usual cache task.

Windows XP, when starting, is unable to load the 0.9.8 driver version...

Thanks for the testings! We'll look for other possible causes.
