Dynamic memory issue using direct-IO for page file

Postby ramdiskyokim825 » Wed Apr 04, 2012 3:59 am

Dynamic memory management did not work when I creadted Direct-IO disk using for page file only in P: driver.
(1)Environment: Win-XP professional SP3, physical memory 4GB.
(2)Page file setting in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\MemoryManagement
(ramdisk) P:\pagefile.sys 100 1018
(harddisk) G:\pagefile.sys 20 1000

(3)Created 1024GB Direct-IO disk with NTFS file system in P: driver dedicated for page file only, no other custom folder was created, enable "Dynamic memory management" only in [Physical Memory Setting] only, did not enable [compact mode], did not enable IM.
(4)Created 2048GB Direct-IO disk with NTFS file system in R: driver dedicated for usertemp and system temp and browser cache files (IE,Chrome,Firefox,Opera) under R:\TEMP, enable "Dynamic memory management" and " Use Invisible Memory" with Quota max limit:512MB, created "TEMP" folder automatically.

Problem:
in (3) available memory(in Win-XP task mamger) did not gain the free memory in P: driver.
in (4) available memory can gain the free memory in R: driver.

Please help to verify this issue, thanks in advance.

We repeated your steps, but we didn't find any problems. Dynamic Memory Management function works well. Can you check the size of your pagefile on P: drive?

Thank you, it is work fine after I double check pagefile size by Everest 5, the dynamic memory management real to gain the free memory whatever the size of pagefile.sys in P: driver was assigned via HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\ MemoryManagement, it means if the real using pagefile is 24MB and will gain free memory 1024MB-24MB=1000MB.
