Real-time save, really?

Post by xarly »

I'm looking for a ramdisk software wich allows real-time mirroring and i have found your Vsuite Ramdisk Server edition.

I'm testing the real-time save feature, but i'm not sure if it works, because for example i tell you some test i have performed:

1.- Save "a.txt" in ramdisk -> Shutdown system normally -> When windows starts ramdisk is there with "a.txt" inside. OK

2.- Save "b.txt." in ramdisk -> Wait 2 seconds. Then I simulate a power failure removing the power wire -> When windows start ramdisk is there, but without "b.txt". WARNING (but understandable)

3.- Save "c.txt" in ramdisk -> Wait 1 minutes. Then simulate power failure again-> When windows start ramdisk is there, but without "c.txt". BAD

And I wonder, if Real-time is enabled why is mandatory to enable Save at Shutdown also? and how Real-time save works?

Is the ramdisk type created SCSI ramdisk? If so, you might check if write-caching is enabled on this ramdisk. (device manager -> Disk drives->Romex RAM-DISK SCSI device ->right click menu, select "properties"->Policies). If write-caching is enabled, then windows might defer to write "c.txt" to ramdisk.

You might disable write-caching and try the test again.
