Vista and IE 7.0, issue on relocating temporary folder

Post by Support »

Thank Thomsen Jimmy for reporting and solving this issue! We post it here for other users who may also have same issue.

OS: Windows Vista
IE: 7.0
When users put IE's temporary files on the ramdisk, it seems that IE becomes very much slower. Further testing shows that iexplore.exe and ieuser.exe have considerable CPU and I/O (using procexp for monitoring). IE becomes periodically unresponsive. Actually same symptom happens if users move the temporary internetfiles outside the user profile, but on physical harddisk.

This issue may be related to NTFS file system and is coming from Microsoft, see this article from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937828

An alternative solution is using FAT32 file system if users don't want to follow above article.

PS. haven't tested IE 8.0 yet, so upgrading to IE8 might also solve the problem.

Thank Thomsen Jimmy again.
