Re: What is this info mean?

All tests were done with 60sec deferred write, 32GB cache with 4k blocks. Roughly the downloading works like this: A] Several .RAR files are download. B] Those files get unpacked. -> Writes double C] .RAR files get deleted. My aim is to halve the writes. The downloads run on what's also my system di...

Re: What is this info mean?

Exact amount of write-data reduced is Total Write (Req) - Total Write (Disk). So in the above case it is about 122MB, 0.4% of requested write-data (100% - 99.6%). So the write caching performance is very bad? I'm going to post results of some tests tonight. Everything seems so conflicting. One test...

Re: What is this info mean?

So the trimmed blocks is data that never got written to SSD?
How big is a block? The blocksize I configured or is it some other measure?

What is this info mean?

I'm especially interested in how many disc writes I saved. Looking at the 98%, read caching is extremely good or bad. Volume (C:) 2019-01-01 17:45:05 ------------------- Total Read 639.51MB Cached Read 626.83MB (98.0%) L2Storage Read 0 (0.0%) L2Storage Write 0 Total Write (Req) 33.91GB Total Write (...

Re: L2 cache advise needed (SSD)

Use a faster NVMe SSD as L2 cache can also speed up SATA SSDs. If you have spare money and would like to buy a NVMe SSD, I recommend that you reinstall Windows OS directly on your new fast SSD to get best performance. When I buy a NMVe it will be one of the faster ones. They start at around 1500MB/...

Re: L2 cache advise needed (SSD)

If you're looking for the best speed on the system drive, along with the best longevity against heavy writes, you'll probably want one of the Pro SSDs from Samsung, then use a good sized read/write L1 (if you have a UPS you can enable write caching in Primocache, further speeding up the system). Sk...

Re: L2 cache advise needed (SSD)

Use a faster NVMe SSD as L2 cache can also speed up SATA SSDs. That's interesting - I figured the overhead for doing NVME L2 operations would have killed the overall IOPS speeds. Maybe it kills the IOPS the moment it's cached on the L2-NVMe. But after that benefitting starts. So I think it greatly ...

L2 cache advise needed (SSD)

I'm planning to buy a SSD for L2 use only. System disk - 1 TB Samsung 860 EVO (SATA 600) Several HDD that are mainly used for storage. 64GB RAM of which I can dedicate up to 32GB to PrimoCache if needed I might cache some HDDs but my main focus is on the System disk. The System disk has to endure lo...

High IOPs vs low IOPS SSDs

SSDs come in many speeds. Usually the max. throughput of huge files is adverttised. While not important the small file read/writes of 4k are often more representative for most users. If looking at benchmarks cheap SSDs often perform quite ok/similar to expensive SSDs transfering large files. The exp...

Re: How much L2 cache? Backups?

On my workstation I currently have a 20GB L1, and 20GB Primo Ramdisk for temp files and smaller software installs (OS has 64GB total). Going to be sourcing two 1TB SSDs for use in a L2 (RAID 0 stripe) against the new Stablebit Drivepool I setup (88TB total).. Yesterday I was searching for RAID card...
