Re: About Fancycache and Defragment tool
Thank you HowardB, Your explanation was excellent and helps dispel confusion - a lofty and admirable ambition. Therefore, it appears that disk I/O is greatly reduced with a Diskeeper/FancyCache combination. Obviously, FancyCache significantly reduces I/O (I regularly see 30% read hit rate and 70% wr...

Multi-volume shared cache?
Is it possible for a single large cache to service multiple volumes? Example case: Windows 7 is on C: drive. iTunes is on D: drive. Instead of setting up two caches, it would be much more efficient to use a single large cache. Since the D: drive is used only occasionally, it is not worth creating a ...

Feature Request: Datalogger
It would be much easier to analyze FancyCache performance and debug interactions if we could datalog the Performance Monitor . The Performance Monitor is great - it shows the amount of data going in and out of the cache and the total cache contents. However, it is visual only. It would be very helpf...

Re: FancyCache causes drive clicking
I tried the Hitachi Feature Tool to disable APM, but apparently, either the Dell BIOS or Windows 7 overrides my manual changes and resets the value. quietHDD is working wonders now.

Re: About Fancycache and Defragment tool
This suggests defragmentation with fancycache active is a very risky proposition indeed.

Re: FancyCache causes drive clicking
There are many reports of Hitachi drives being noisy due to aggressive head parking. Some forums refer to this as the "Dell torture device". I'm still looking for a solution. Looking at SMART data, I can see my Hitachi has already used 17,000 Load Cycle Count out of 600,000 - or about 1,00...

Re: About Fancycache and Defragment tool
I understood that the Windows Defrag utility (which provides the defragmentation API to thrid-party defrag utilities) bypassed cache and wrote directly to the disk. Does FancyCache sit underneath this, so that the defrag data is buffered through FancyCache?

FancyCache causes drive clicking
I sit with my laptop in a quiet office. Years ago, I had an old laptop with a hard drive that clicked like a bitch. I hated it. So I'm sensitive. [edit] Issue fixed with quietHDD [end edit] My laptop now sits here (mostly) silently. However, with FancyCache write-deferred, it clicks exactly with on ...

Readyboost and FancyCache
I've been using FancyCache for a couple weeks. Due to generalized laziness of yet another forum account, I've only got around to registering today. Can FancyCache coexist with Readyboost? From what I understand, the functionality is different, although I can image some potential conflicts. Readyboos...
