Re: Size of L1 and L2 Cache (SSD)
IMHO, a L1 cache of 2GB will radically improve performance all on it's own. You could add a L2 cache of 32GB or more on an SSD drive, but I'd only worry about that if you use applications that do massive data access. That said, I've not tried it. Regarding delayed-write - I personally don't use it f...

Re: Size of L1 and L2 Cache (SSD)
So I'd go with a large L1 cache - maybe 2GB or more. You choose 'Volume' or 'Disk' version of FancyCache based on whether you want all partitions on the disk drive to be cached (disk) or whether you want to specify a different cache for each partition (or no cache). You don't need to use any RAM dis...

Re: Disable/Limit Windows File System Cache in favor of FC
It's simply that the "regular" windows file cache is one more cache in the chain. Since my goal is to leverage the 4GB above the line, I'm dependent on FancyCache's L1 and L2 caching mechanism. I would prefer that my application be able to issue a read request and have FancyCache immediate...

Re: Disable/Limit Windows File System Cache in favor of FC
Despite the sarcasm, your description is basically correct, however It does not support the assertion that disabling the Windows File System Cache is inappropriate in every case. I have 8GB of memory in my machine, over 4GB of which is inaccessible to WinXP. However FancyCache CAN make use of that m...

Re: Disable/Limit Windows File System Cache in favor of FC
Thanks for the input, theNige. I was aware of LargeSystemCache, and is currently set to the default of zero. The Size setting looks interesting, although it seems like it might have more impact on network file sharing than on local file system caching. Either way, the setting is present on WinXP Pro...

Re: Use Invisible Memory as L1 Cache
Thanks minhgi.
I'm pretty tight in the 'below 3.2GB' region, so the best arrangement for me would be to have a large L1 cache in Invisible Memory. I know that VSuite can build it's RAM-disk in IM without consuming memory below 3.2GB, so I wonder why FancyCache cannot.

Failed to start caching - 0x80041001
On my WinXP system, the NTFS cluster size is 4K, and elsewhere I read that the FancyCache Block Size should match my NTFS Cluster Size. When configuring FC, If I specify a Block Size of 4KB and a Cache Size of 128MB then select 'Start Caching;, I get the message 'Failed to start caching or configure...

Disable/Limit Windows File System Cache in favor of FC
I'm running WinXP 32-bit on a machine with 8GB of RAM, and have dedicated the upper 4GB to FancyCache. Since I have so much RAM dedicated to FancyCache caching, I would like to completely disable Windows File System Cache, which consumes memory below the 3.2GB line, and instead force all I/O to go d...

Use Invisible Memory as L1 Cache
Great product so far :D I'm running WinXP 32-bit on a machine with 8GB of memory, and planned on dedicating the 4GB of Invisible memory to FancyCache, while leaving as much of the memory below 3.2GB for WinXP to use for non-cache purposes. However, I see that Invisible Memory can only be used for L2...
