Re: [2017-05-27] PrimoCache 3.0.0 Beta is available now!

No, I have no software for preloading. Thats exactly the point: Either my software is having preloading by its own or there is no preloading (as most of the time). So my playback speed is limited to the actual drive speed "just in time". So my (old and often mentioned) wish is that a new v...

Re: [2017-05-27] PrimoCache 3.0.0 Beta is available now!

...and another thing I want to see was preloading of "n" blocks after the last requested block. As I frequently defragment my volumes (the biggest 64 TBytes in one single volume/piece - defragmentation runs hell fast with PrimoCache...) my data is mainly sequential (audio/video production)...

Re: [2017-05-27] PrimoCache 3.0.0 Beta is available now!

Hi! I have not been visiting the forum since a while, so I missed Beta 3.0.0 at the beginning. Now I have downloaded and installed it. Are any blocks written to a read & write cache enabled device are immediately available for reading as well? Think of rendering an image sequence and wanting to ...

Re: How to pre-load the cache on a high-end PC?

While I understand that RobF is preloading for his gaming experience, I wonder why you are attempting to preload for your forensic analysis (right?). I would expect that its enough to access the data on request and step by step its getting cached automatically. When we push jobs to our render farm, ...

Re: How to pre-load the cache on a high-end PC?

Yep, the algorithm may try doing things we don't expect and want from it.

A least used-first out approach is simple to understand, reflects on most users needs and would do the job exactly as expected IMHO.

What do you think?

Re: How to pre-load the cache on a high-end PC?

I would have expected that all reads go automatically into L2 unless L2 is filled. And if L2 is filled, a "last used first out" approach should decide which block of L2 is discarded to make space for what you are just reading. Thats the expectation. I have to think about if I can verify fo...

Re: Feature Request: Support accelerating writes with L2 Storage

In my opinion the biggest difference between using PrimoCache L2 SSD cache and building a storage tier like in Storage Spaces is that the SSD cache is taking only a copy of the data that is living on the HDD storage or storage array which we are caching. In Storage Spaces, the data is potentially mo...

Re: Accelerating PrimoRAMDisk with PrimoCache by 100%!

While I basically think that the RAM Disk should be faster per se than PrimoCache, its completely repeatable among different benchmark tools. I don't know if the measurement fails "by design" or what causes this behaviour. However, I have made a bunch of tests showing it and its surely wor...

Re: Accelerating PrimoRAMDisk with PrimoCache by 100%!

You need to open a DOS box in windows, such as entering "CMD" in either the run/start or windows file explorer. Then enter: fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo <DRIVE>: example: C:\Windows\system32> fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo c: NTFS Volume Serial Number : 0xf4ca5d7cca5d3c54 Version : 3.1 Number Sectors : ...

Re: Accelerating PrimoRAMDisk with PrimoCache by 100%!

Hi Adz, I can't really say that a 4 GB RAM PC is not recommended for using PrimoCache, but its clear that the less RAM you have, the more likely Windows and other programs will run out of memory (strongly depending on what you do) and will instead beging swapping in/out RAM pages to the swap file. S...
