Re: 4gb ram system

Windows does do its own file-caching, and that file cache will shrink and free up memory for other applications if needed, whereas PrimoCache will not. So for systems that are relatively limited in memory, I'd suggest not bothering with PrimoCache at all and just letting Windows do its stuff.

Re: Setup Advise

You don't mention your host OS, but if it is a version of Windows, then you have a choice of running PrimoCache on the host OS (to speed up disk access generally) or within the guest (to speed up the VM only). Best advice here is really to assess your maximum memory usage with the VM (either using T...

Re: Help with setup 256gb ram 48TB HDD drive for video storage

If you're using the Seagate Reds for backup only, then there is absolutely no point in caching them at all - you are not going to be repeating any reads or writes and you do increase (albeit slightly) the probability of data loss in the event of a system crash or power failure. The one suggestion I ...

For a while this worked OK, but we've started seeing this file creation hang...Could this potentially be coming from PrimoCache? We have it set up with a deferred write of 10 seconds.....

Re: Primocache for diskless program (ccboot)

...your budget of 1k is VERY low to accomplish the client-caching strategy. With 30 clients, you'd run most of your budget out just getting 30 copies of PrimoCache, which leaves no room for additional RAM on those clients (which Primo needs), or local SSD drives (to help with local L2 caching to re...

Re: Primocache for diskless program (ccboot)

But in my case i'm using custom ups to prevent the server from turning off during blackout. It did happen once or twice though during long blackout. Note that a UPS won't prevent bluescreen crashes, so while a good idea if your power supply is less than 100%, data backups are still important and an...

Re: Backup Software Skewes the cache

You could try using the Task Scheduler to call the appropriate commands to pause/restart PrimoCache at specific times. You could do a step further by creating a batch file to pause caching, take a differential backup and then restart it and use Task Scheduler to run that. Another option - try Drive ...
