Defragging a ramdisk?

Hi

When a ramdisk is used to hold programs and an image file is saved upon shutdown, is it a good idea to defrag the ramdisk (like a normal hard disk) every now and then? I ask because SSDs shouldn't be defragged.

Thanks.

Re: Java (jre) in ramdisk - good idea?

I installed Java (jre 6_21) in a ramdisk (direct I/O type) on a Windows 7 machine and everything works well, except that I can no longer change the Java cache location (the "Change" button is grayed out). On my Windows XP computers with jre_18 (not installed in a ramdisk), the Java cache l...

Re: Paging file in Ramdisk

Hi Many thanks for your clarifications. I think I understand the issues now, with the benefit of your clear explanations. Sorry, I didn't make it clear. I mean generally it needs to set a larger value to prevent the case of insufficient paging space if using the fixed-size paging file. For eg. assum...

Java (jre) in ramdisk - good idea?

Hi

Is it a good idea to install and run the Java VM in a ramdisk which also holds other programs and associated files?

Your views, please!

Re: Paging file in Ramdisk

Many thanks for your detailed and helpful reply.

Do you mean this will reduce the use of RAM (esp. allocated RAM), not hard disk space?

Thanks again.

Paging file in Ramdisk

Hi A few questions about using a ramdisk (created with both Invisible Memory and Allocated Memory) to hold a paging file. (1) Is it essential to "Enable Image File" and "Save at Computer Shutdown" for this ramdisk? (2) Does a fixed size paging file provide the best performance? (...

Re: Transferring registration key to another computer

Hi

When I do a clean install of Windows 7 on a computer previously running VSuite Ramdisk standard edition, can I simply use the same registration key, or do I need to email support to manually update the registration database?

Thanks.

IM Reservation - Intel Core i3

Hi I'm planning to use VSuite Ramdisk standard edition on a new computer with an Intel i3 CPU which uses Intel HD Graphics, running Windows 7 Home 32-bit. Since Intel HD Graphics uses shared RAM, http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-intel-integrated-graphics/ I wonder if...
